Hi! The warmer weather we’ve had the past few days has really caused the plants to explode. The birds are also extremely lively and singing like crazy. We’ve watched multiple nests fledge already and know of several second clutches that have been started. Just the other day we had a hen turkey come through the backyard with a clutch of close to a dozen small poults! We’ve also had a lot of butterflies lately. A ton of fritillaries, a couple of monarchs, as well as other miscellaneous species. At night, the frogs and crickets serenade us.
I’ve also been trying to carve out some time this spring to work on a major landscaping project of my own. It’s coming along slowly, but at least I’m making progress. It’s really easy for me to get so busy helping others, taking care of the nursery, and creating educational content that I forget to take time to work on my own projects. I know I’m not the only one who has that struggle. If you’re like me in that, then I hope you are also finding little bits of time for your projects or at least to just get outside and enjoy some of the pollinators and wildlife that you are already attracting to your property.
Have a great day! Shannon
This little gray treefrog was hanging out with the nursery plants the other day.
The plants are coming along well and have really benefited from the slightly wetter than normal spring. I’ve watched some of this year’s seedlings almost double in size just in the past week. I’ll be busy transplanting this afternoon and for the next several days. As new species grow large enough to sell, I’ll add them to the event listings.
These swamp milkweed seedlings have nearly doubled in size over the past week.
Learn More About Native Plants, Pollinators and Wildlife
As you may know, we also do a lot of educational work to help others learn about native plants, pollinators and wildlife, and how to create thriving backyard ecosystems. In addition to the Backyard Ecology™ videos that Anthony publishes every week on YouTube, I’ve also relaunched the Backyard Ecology™ blog and podcast. Below are a few Backyard Ecology™ resources that I think you might find helpful.
